AS Roma vs Athletic Bilbao: betting odds 6 Mar 2025
Betting tips 6 Mar 2025
AS Roma have been in very good form in Serie A, while Athletic Bilbao have reduced their pace in La Liga. However, both teams will set aside their domestic campaigns for one evening. They will face each other in the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16 at the Stadio Olimpico.
AS Roma have been performing strongly. Claudio Ranieri was named Serie A’s Manager of the Month for February. They have won four of their last five matches and conceded only two goals. In the one match they did not win, they drew (1:1) with then-leaders Napoli. In the play-offs, Roma defeated Porto over two legs. Their attacking depth is one of their key strengths. If Artem Dovbyk does not perform, Paulo Dybala or Alexis Saelemaekers are expected to contribute.
Athletic Bilbao, although having reduced their pace, still remain in a Champions League qualification position by sitting fourth in La Liga. Their latest league match was a tough test. They were defeated by Atlético Madrid in the second half, conceding the only goal. In addition, they hit the posts and crossbar three times. This contrasts with their dominant home win over Real Valladolid (7:1). Overall, they have struggled away from home this year, managing only one victory in their last six matches.
The clubs have met previously in the group stage of this Europa League. In that match, Athletic Bilbao managed a 1:1 draw in Rome with a late equaliser. Despite taking fewer shots (5–12), AS Roma posed a greater threat. Their current form and home advantage will provide them with an edge. We recommend backing the home side.
